A Huntingdon County Native. After graduating from Captain Jack High School in 1965, enlisted in the United States Navy. Served one tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. After completing enlistment obligation in the U.S. Navy, returned to Pennsylvania and attended Lock Haven University then transferred to Penn State University. Received B.S. Degree in Community Development from Penn State University. Also attended University of Boston –Masters Educational Psychology Program and Penn State University - Masters Vocational Education Program.
