Growing up in a small town in Pittsburgh area, Laurie obtained her bachelor’s degree in Phys Ed from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1989, she enlisted in the US Army as a missile technician, serving almost three years in Alabama and one in South Korea. While working as a caseworker with the Butler County Children and Youth Agency, Laurie obtained my Master’s Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University and my Master of Social Work, before retiring after 20 years.

Regarding gun laws, what generally do you support from the choices below?
I am in favor of universal background checks; a ban on civilians owning military-style weapons, high-capacity magazines, and alterations that result in faster firing; a buy-back program for 12 months, after which owning such weapons will be a criminal offense with jail time; and stronger laws on protecting victims - as well as the community - against violent offenders.
With 20 years experience in child protective services, I know that heroin, cocaine, meth, and alcohol use and abuse lead to significant decreases in the ability of people to care for their children. Marijuana usage seldom resulted in intervention.
