Growing up in a small town in Pittsburgh area, Laurie obtained her bachelor’s degree in Phys Ed from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1989, she enlisted in the US Army as a missile technician, serving almost three years in Alabama and one in South Korea. While working as a caseworker with the Butler County Children and Youth Agency, Laurie obtained my Master’s Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University and my Master of Social Work, before retiring after 20 years.

Additional Comments: A very large amount of research has been conducted on climate change, with most studies verifying the human causation of global warming. To state otherwise is a political stance with little, if any, basis in fact. Facts are derived from valid and reliable research. Valid research is important, and reliable research results in similar or the same findings when the methods are the same.

Additional Comments: I am in favor of universal background checks; a ban on civilians owning military-style weapons, high-capacity magazines, and alterations that result in faster firing; a buy-back program for 12 months, after which owning such weapons will be a criminal offense with jail time; and stronger laws on protecting victims - as well as the community - against violent offenders.

How should marijuana be regulated?

Additional Comments: With 20 years experience in child protective services, I know that heroin, cocaine, meth, and alcohol use and abuse lead to significant decreases in the ability of people to care for their children. Marijuana usage seldom resulted in intervention.
