Rep. Glenn Thompson, Republican, Incumbent Candidate for U.S. Congress - 15th PA District

What is your position on abortion policy?

I have often said you can’t be a champion for the future of this great country by limiting its potential. I have long-held personal belief that life begins at conception, and following the Supreme Court’s decision earlier this year, debate over the laws governing abortion will be returned to state legislatures.

What is your position on voting administration? (ex: mail-in ballots, drop boxes, voter ID, etc.)

Voter confidence plummeted after 2020 in the face of numerous reports that called into question the integrity and security of voting processes across the county. Not only in national elections, but state and local races as well. There were legitimate questions about what happened in Pennsylvania during the 2020 general election, including the Governor seeking to waive Election Code requirements that all mail-in ballots were received by 8pm on election day, the inspection of ballots prior to 7 a.m. on election day for the purpose of reaching out to certain voters to correct deficiencies, some counties ignoring a prohibition on counting defective absentee mail-in ballots, and the prohibition of certain individuals from observing pre-canvassing and canvassing activities. This isn’t about one candidate, one party, or one election. In 2021, we even witnessed New York City release inaccurate results in the mayoral Democratic primary. Americans entrust our election officials to be neutral administrators, who carry out nonpartisan tasks. Our elections cannot be weaponized by partisan actors. Our democracy will only continue to thrive if we have election integrity, election security, and election transparency. I unequivocally support every Americans right to vote and have consistently done everything I can to ensure free and fair elections.

What are your positions on economic policy and job creation (ex: inflation reduction, taxes, regulations, etc.)?

There is no doubt that record inflation, coupled by fractured supply chains, and workforce shortages are the greatest challenges facing our country. Unfortunately, these are largely self-imposed, by an Administration that would rather place blame on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine than take practical steps to increase American production of farm commodities or unleash the potential of our vast domestic energy resources. We cannot spend our way out of a recession, but we can create an environment ripe for growth through lower taxes and a responsible regulatory structure.

What is your position on climate change and environmental policy?

As Republican Leader of the House Agriculture Committee, my colleagues and I have introduced a variety of climate bills to improve forest management, increase access to precision agriculture, restore soil health practices, and produce responsible energy and conservation incentives through the Department of Agriculture’s conservation programs. I am working to craft innovative climate solutions by empowering the original stewards of our land—our farmers, ranchers, and foresters. These science-based policies will help promote a stronger agriculture economy by growing climate-friendly innovations that are already done by producers. We cannot sacrifice a healthy economy for a healthy environment, and vice versa. Natural solutions work, and we know producers are part of the solution, not part of the problem.

What is your position on immigration policy?

We have a crisis on our Southern Border, which the Biden Administration has largely ignored, despite more than 2.7 million apprehensions of illegal migrants this year. Having taken the time to travel to the border, unlike the President, I can tell you that we have many challenges, from the humanitarian crisis affecting young children, to areas where people can freely walk into the country without any impediment. The solution is to enforce the law.

What is your position on LGBTQ rights? (ex: marriage, adoption, sports participation)

I believe discrimination of any kind is abhorrent, and the Supreme Court has ruled to extend federal protections to individuals based on sexual orientation or gender identity, in addition to race, color, or creed. The Supreme Court also settled the issue of marriage in 2015. Sex specific sports were created to make up for the undeniable biological differences between male and female.

What is your position on criminal justice reform?

In 2018 I was proud to support the First Step Act, which is the culmination of a bi-partisan effort to improve criminal justice outcomes, as well as to reduce the size of the federal prison population and create mechanisms to keep the public safe while reducing recidivism. I have often said that the cure for many social ills is a good paying job.

What is your position on gun ownership policy?

I am a strong supporter of individuals’ Second Amendment rights.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Throughout my time in Congress, I have consistently worked in a bipartisan manner to achieve common ground and consensus. I credit my career in healthcare and volunteer experiences, whether scouting, as an EMT and firefighter, or on school board. Each provided me the ability to work with people from all walks of life. I believe the constituents expect this from their voice in Washington. It is an honor to serve them, and I am humbled by their continued support. On November 8th, I would greatly appreciate your vote for Congress.
